Story
In just 4 days time, I toe the line in Chepstow, to take on the epic challenge of the Wild Horse 200, for the second time.
Last year's race took several turns of events, going from being rapidly ahead of my expectations, shin splints that turned out to be a fracture and being caught in storm conditions on a high ridge line. Let's say I have some unfinished business!
The Wild Horse, as the name suggests, is not a flat 200 miles. The route heads from Chepstow, along the Wye Valley, through the Black Mountains and Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons), taking in all of the major mountains in South Wales. Sugar Loaf, Waun Fach, and Pen y Fan in the first 100 miles. I hope to see the finish at Worm's Head, Rhossili, much sooner than I did last year.
Why am I doing it? Quite simply, because I can. Many of you know that in 2020, mid pandemic, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and my future felt very uncertain. I am very fortunate to be able to do what I do, many survivors are left without that choice.
Cancer leaves a permanent mark, long after the end of active treatment, often invisible. Support services are scarce and in high demand.
Maggie's is a charity close to my heart. Maggie's centres are found through England, Wales and Scotland, with remote support for those who cannot access a centre in person. They provide support to families and loved ones affected by cancer.
I'm hoping to raise some funds through my race, no pressure of a big target. I'll be wearing a tracker where you can very slowly follow a dot over several days, starting next Wednesday at 6am. Click the link below and tap my name in the search icon to find me!
Saddle up buttercups, it's time to ride!
In memory of two friends, unfairly taken, sadly missed 🧡
