Friends of Serenity aims to preserve and protect the health of sick pregnant women and those who have suffered a miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death in particular but not exclusively by providing and assisting in the provision of facilities, Serenity Suites and equipment at East Lancashire Women and New Born Centre not normally provided by the statutory authorities. We work hard to support newly bereaved parents through the provision of memory boxes and miscarriage keepsakes. By dressing their babies we hope to make distressing and devastating time a little more comforting by taking the pressure off them. These are provided in East Lancashire and throughout the country on public requirement. Additionally, we strive to provide qualified information by any means appropriate on the 2nd most common chromosome disorder Trisomy 13.

Story

18 years ago on the 19th July our son Joseph was stillborn: he weighed 2lb 9oz and looked just like our other 3 sons did when they were born - absolutely perfect.

I still find it hard even now to put into words what we went through back then. I can still remember every single detail and feeling like it was yesterday.

18 years ago they didn't have the same maternity facilities in place that they do now for babies that are born sleeping. Friends of serenity, a local charity, has helped by providing and assisting in the provision of facilities, serenity suites (special rooms) and equipment needed (cold cots etc) at our local 'East Lancs Womens New Born Centre' that is not provided by the local councils. They also put together memory boxes and offer support in so many ways to help make these devastating times a little more easy.

We thought it fitting to raise money for this wonderful charity to help other families that find themselves in this devastating situation; in memory of Joseph on what would have been his 18th birthday.

On the 22nd of July... Phil, me and our very good friend Simon will be running a 100 mile relay. We will run in 10 mile blocks passing on the baton and completing the last 10 miles together (so running 40 miles each.. Kerry will be running all my miles with me) finishing at Blackburn Rugby Club at 7pm.
