Story
On September 23rd I will be taking on the challenge of walking the West Highland Way - a 96 mile hike through some of Scotland's most beautiful landscapes. I am planning on doing it over 8 days and then walking up Ben Nevis to finish off.
I think it's a good opportunity to try and raise some money for At A Loss charity.
As most of you know, Stu - the love of my life and soulmate died suddenly of a massive heart attack last December. I am still utterly heartbroken and I still can't believe he's not here anymore.
In those first few horrendous months, I was a complete mess.
I contacted 'At A Loss', a bereavement charity that run a free 7 week course called The Bereavement Journey which offers support and guidance to anyone who is dealing with grief. I signed up for it and it was the best thing I could have done.
Going along once a week was an absolute life line to me. It was a place that I could go and be with people who completely understood. The course is run by volunteers, all of whom have been bereaved and have done the course themselves.
The charity also has monthly get togethers, enabling us all to keep in touch and give and receive continued support. This has been particularly important as my Mum has recently passed away too.
The Bereavement Journey is a nationwide course and I would recommend it to anyone who has experienced loss, even if it was a long time ago. You can just Google it to find out where your nearest course is.
I would like to give something back in exchange for all of the support and kindness that I was given when I was most in need.
Any amount that you can donate, no matter how small will enable At A Loss to keep providing support to people when they need it most.
Ben Nevis was on mine and Stu's bucket list and I shall be thinking of him the whole way. Maybe I should raise a toast to him with a shot of Sheepdog when I reach the summit!
Thank you for reading this and thank you if you are able to make a donation. X
