Story
Running for Alfie – Supporting Young Lives vs Cancer This year, I’m taking on the London Marathon to raise money for Young Lives vs Cancer - and I’m doing it for an incredible little boy, Alfie Bills and the family, who are my close friends that I have known since childhood.
Alfie is a bright, cheeky, and determined 9 year old who has been bravely battling acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. He was first diagnosed in May 2019, shortly after his 3rd birthday, and after years of treatment, his family finally believed he was in the clear. But in August 2024, their worst fears came true - his leukaemia had relapsed.
Since then, Alfie has endured intense chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and countless hospital stays. He has needed life-saving blood and platelet transfusions, battled the side effects of treatment, and spent months in isolation to protect his fragile immune system. Despite everything, he keeps fighting.
The good news is that Alfie is now in remission, but his journey is far from over. He still has months of grueling chemotherapy ahead, and his family continues to navigate the uncertainty that comes with childhood cancer.
Why Young Lives vs Cancer? Throughout this incredibly difficult time, Young Lives vs Cancer has been a lifeline for Alfie’s family. They provide financial support, help with accommodation near the hospital, and offer guidance to families facing the unimaginable. Their work ensures that no child or family has to go through cancer alone.
How You Can Help I’m running 26.2 miles for Alfie and every child like him who is fighting cancer. Every donation will make a real difference - whether it’s helping a family stay together during treatment, easing financial worries, or funding crucial support services. I’ll be thinking of Alfie every step of the way, and I’d love for you to join me in supporting him and other children like him. Every penny counts, and together, we can make a huge difference.
Please donate if you can, share Alfie’s story, and help us raise as much as possible for this incredible cause. Thank you for your support! When a child is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, overwhelming money worries, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to.
