In March last year, Thomas (Nicola's son, Catriona and Rosie’s nephew) was diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome.

To help raise money for the Fragile X Society and awareness of the condition, the three of us are walking the Edinburgh Kiltwalk (21 miles).

Fragile X Syndrome (FXS) is a genetic condition, affecting around 1 in 4000 males and 1 in 6000 females. It can cause a wide range of difficulties with learning, as well as social, language, attentional, emotional, and behavioural problems.

The Fragile X Society aims to improve the lives of those affected by Fragile X and associated conditions by providing information and continued support to families and professionals they work with. Working together with those affected, the Society supports an inclusive community of people who understand the specific needs of Fragile X.

Whilst Thomas is a happy boy (as you can see from his picture 😊 ), he, and others with FXS, face a number of challenges. The Fragile X Society relies on generous donations to be able to continue to provide and develop their support for people living with Fragile X.
