Story
Oscar needs your help.
2 year old Oscar was rescued from straying on the streets and brought to Cats Protection Northern Ireland volunteers in Armagh after a local resident noticed him in her parents’ garden.
Thankfully we were able to take Oscar into the care of local volunteers and give him the care and veterinary treatment that he badly needed.
Unfortunately, Oscar had a rare congenital eyelid condition called eyelid coloboma in both eyes, which causes an absence of eyelid tissues. This caused him noticeable discomfort, and he was less playful than would be expected for a cat of his age. As Oscar did not have normal eyelid margins, the vet proposed surgery to allow Oscar more comfort and a better quality of life. Luckily, Oscar’s sight was unaffected. However, following surgery Oscar suffered from ulcers in both eyes, which have meant he has had to stay in the care of Cats Protection for longer.
Since his surgery, with thanks to the success of his treatment, the care of volunteers and his own fighting spirit, Oscar has continued to recover well. He has proven himself to be a loving, gentle cat who adores affection. Since his surgery, we have noticed he is more engaged in the things around him, more playful and more curious.
Oscar is still recovering from his surgery and has been in the care of Cats Protection volunteers for 90 days. Over that time, Oscar’s cost of care has totalled over £500. We receive no government funding and rely entirely on the generosity of people like you. £500 will cover the cost of Oscar’s extra care and surgery, alongside vaccinations, neutering, microchipping and flea and worm treatments. Any donations received above and beyond this amount will be used to care for other cats across Northern Ireland who have ended up in our care through no fault of their own.
If you're unable to donate, please consider sharing Oscar’s story with your friends, family, and on social media. Together, we can make a big difference to their cats lives.
