Story
In 2022, just after she retired, and shortly before my brother Drew and I moved to New York City, our mom, Elaine, was diagnosed with a rare form of dementia. The time since our mom's diagnosis has been challenging, but it has also showcased her courage and our father's patience.
Upon learning that physical activity could help mitigate some of the symptoms accompanying her diagnosis, our mom became a dedicated runner, avid swimmer, and Peloton enthusiast.
Running has always played a key role in our dad's life. Over the last few years, we've watched as our mom found solace in the same activity that holds such a special place in his heart.
Having moved, we are not able to be with our mom as much as we'd like, so we have decided to run the the Abbott World Major Marathons. We appreciate any and all support as we cross over the third finish line in Berlin this September.
