The Cavell team are walking 15,000 steps on Wednesday 6 May 2026.

That’s the number of steps a nurse can take during a busy 12-hour shift, caring for patients, supporting families and putting others first.

We're taking on Cavell’s Purple Walk for nurses and midwives like Donna.

Midwife Donna was there for families every day. But when her ex-husband, the father of her four children, was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, she faced a crisis of her own. He lived 180 miles away. Donna doesn’t drive. Every visit meant five train tickets and rising costs she simply couldn’t afford alone.

With help from Cavell, Donna received a grant so her children could travel to see their father the day before he died and say their goodbyes. Those moments will stay with them forever.

Nurses and midwives spend their lives caring for us. When they face hardship, Cavell makes sure they don’t face it alone.
