First of all, thank you for taking the time to visit the page where I just wanted to give you a bit of an insight into why I’m raising money for MS again.
6 Years ago, I ran the London Marathon in honour of my father who suffered from Secondary Progressive MS, which is a very strong and relentless type of the disease - where the systems will continuously get worse and worse.
Despite blowing my knee out after 4 miles, giving up and admitting defeat wasn’t an option, and I was able to hobble my way round and complete it in 6 hours. (Raising over £5000 in the process for the amazing Ms Society)
The knee healed(ish) and I thought my charity running days could be put to rest.
However in a cruel twist of fate, it turns out that MS is in fact hereditary and around Christmas time last year, I was told by a doctor that I myself might have MS.
After an earlier than expected Christmas arrival of my son and a few delayed follow up appointments with the doctors, I finally sat down with the MS specialists where I was officially diagnosed with Relapsing Remitting MS.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an incurable, degenerative diseases that affects the brain and spinal cord. It damages the protective coating of nerves, known as myelin, leading to a range of symptoms such as blurred vision and difficulties with movement, cognition, and emotions.
After the emotional whirlwind (both amazing and not so amazing) that was the start of this year, I decided that I was not going to let this disease dictate my life and sought to do everything I could to take control. Which leads me to the here and now, where I was able to secure a place in the September Berlin Marathon - running for the MS Society — the same charity that supported my dad, and now supports people like me.
I’m currently 8 weeks into my 16 week training plan and fingers crossed, hoping to also make this my first marathon without sustaining an injury 🤞 (I made it to 30km in the Paris marathon in April, before my knees starting playing silly buggers).
I’ll be sure to keep this page update with the second half of my training journey 👌🏻
If you made it this far, thank you for taking a few minutes of your day to read my story. It would be absolutely amazing if you were now able to give any donations - big or small to help me in my MS journey ✌🏼 ✌🏼
