Story

✨UPDATE! I'm now running Hastings Half Marathon on Sunday 5th October! It was meant to be 23rd March, it was cancelled and so I ran Reading Half instead. Now that HHM been rescheduled to October it'll be the first race of my 5th decade, if all goes to plan! ✨

Hot dinners, warm hearts: I'm running for Sustenance - will you support me?

Rima, James and their formidable team of volunteers at Sustenance Food Support rescue good food that would otherwise go to waste and transform it into 50 hot, wholesome meals and numerous shopping bags for local people in need. Then they do it again, every single week, all year round.

In the few years I've lived in Hastings, this project has been one of the highlights that has made this town my forever home. Scroll the gallery above to get an idea. The sheer generosity of these local heroes, who give their time, expertise, energy, creativity and resourcefulness, is truly inspiring. They believe that food waste is wrong and food poverty is unnecessary, and so do I.

Running's not exactly a new thing for me - it's been keeping me sane(ish) since 2002. I recently learned it's not a certainty, though. After believing I'd lost it to menopause, I'm thrilled to be running my first race on the other side of it in this quirky, HILLY, kind, friendly, beautiful town. Raising funds for this plucky little charity, for which I'm delighted to be a Trustee, is surely going to make those gruelling 6 miles uphill a little less steep!

I'd be so grateful if you could chip in to help Sustenance continue our vital work. Your money will go to simple, important things like the tools and equipment to safely prepare food, and hiring the church hall where meals are served.
