In 2022, a cohort of Haddonfield residents and parents formed to evaluate and plan an initiative to enhance the youth sports experience. The results of the shared vision among field hockey, football and lacrosse cohorts was to raise funds to install synthetic turf at Centennial Field. The installation of synthetic turf playing fields geared to improve the quality of playing services and availability.

The current conditions prove tenuous during year-round use and enduring the unpredictability of weather. There are countless examples of poor playing conditions primarily due to the quality of the current conditions and amount of use the field receives. Collaboration with the town commissions and support, the community, coaches and athletes all acknowledged that Centennial Field is not in sufficient shape to endure the increasing level of play to properly provide adequate and predictable playing surfaces to ensure availability and the health and safety of the community’s student-athletes.

The analysis for cost estimation is continuous and the expectation is the funding required will be approximately $1,000,000; the fundraising initiative commenced in the Fall of 2023. The goal is to raise 100% of the fund privately. This collaborative effort will ensure that this project will be successfully completed.

The Haddonfield community and its residents have demonstrated a long-standing tradition of supporting initiatives that improve and enhance the quality of life for their children and children of the future.
