Cerys & Vic's Fundraiser for The Sloth Conservation Foundation

Cerys Felton is raising money for The Sloth Conservation Foundation

Saving sloths from extinction requires innovative and long-term conservation solutions that provide sustainable ways for sloths to coexist with the people sharing their habitat. We have developed a range of community-based programs that help us to achieve this mission.

Story

Hi,

We're Vic & Cerys and we've decided to attempt to cycle the length of the UK this summer (yes you read that right the WHOLE length of the UK).

You might be thinking we're expert cyclists....

You must also be thinking we are really fit people.....

Well think again!

We are none of those things! Just two crazy, passionate people ready to do something extreme to protect tropical forests and sloths!

With our sloth and steady pace we'll be documenting our ride and sharing facts about these enigmatic creatures along the way!

Globally, 40% of all sloth species are now threatened with extinction.

In Costa Rica's Talamanca area, urbanisation of tropical forest has increased by 30% in just 2 years. This causes sloths to come down from the canopy, risking their lives to cross to remaining fragmented forest patches.

In connection with this an estimated 3,000 sloths are wiped out annually, causing them to be listed as conservation concerns.

But there is hope, queue The Sloth Conservation Foundation (SloCo), a charity fighting on the front line to save the sloths home, and striving to create an environment where they can peacefully coexist with humans.

Amongst their incredible work (which you can read about here) is their Connected Gardens and Sloth Crossing Projects. To save sloths we must firstly ensure they have as little reason as possible to come to the ground, and for that we MUST reforest their home and provide safe passage between connecting forest stands. These projects do exactly that.

Whilst the Sloth Crossing Project provides rope bridges to connect the gaps through the remaining fragments the Connected Gardens Project aims to reforest these vital connecting areas and provide long term wildlife corridors for a whole host of species to use.

We'd love to raise £1,000 for SloCo to continue this vitally important work and we'd greatly appreciate your support!

Thank you for your support, and remember Sloth and Steady wins the race!
