We raise funds to help children at Maria's Care

Story

Hello Friends

We (myself and my twins Delvin & Delphin and our Church Vicar's sons Oliver and George) along with friends are participating in the Sponsored Snowdon Challenge on Sat 5th October to raise money for the Maria's Care Primary School, Uganda. We hope to raise £2,400 for new desks and school books for years 1 to 5. In Years 1 to 5 only the teacher has the book! Each book costs £1 and we need to buy 600 for the 4 subjects for 150 pupils. And in Years 1 to 4, four pupils are sitting at desks intended for two! We need to raise £1,800 to buy 50 new desks (£36 each). Maria's Care Primary School, founded nearly 28 years ago in Kamuli, a very poor area of Uganda. Our churches have been supporting the school for a number of years through a local charity, Christian Relief Uganda. Julie Parker of St Ed's is chair of this charity and Charles Parker and Meriel Carboni are trustees. We will travel to Snowdon on Fri 4th October and stay overnight in hostel accommodation to start the hike early on Sat 5th and then travel back to Manchester that evening. If you would like more information about joining this very worthwhile fundraising adventure, then please contact Meriel Carboni by email at: mariascareuganda@yahoo.com and she will be happy to send you more information.
