WHAT IS SEPSIS?
Sepsis (also known as blood poisoning) is the immune system’s overreaction to an infection or injury. Normally our immune system fights infection – but sometimes, for reasons we don’t yet understand, it attacks our body’s own organs and tissues. If not treated immediately, sepsis can result in organ failure and death. Yet with early diagnosis, it can be treated with antibiotics.
5 people die with sepsis every hour in the UK.
25,000 hospital admissions with sepsis each year in the UK occur in children.
40% of all sepsis survivors suffer permanent, life-changing after effects.
I've started Project Barbie with my car know as Rascal The Tigra. Project Barbie is ultimately to inspire kids you can do anything you want to and it doesn’t matter who you are, where you’re from or what you do or don’t have. If you can dream it, do it! Whilst we are starting to gain attention we also want to raise money and awareness for a good cause. I have chosen to raise money for the UK Sepsis Trust as the cause is particularly close to my heart. Sepsis awareness is incredibly important - unfortunately the silent killer isn't commonly recognised thus leading to 11 Million deaths globally every year among 49 million cases...
I am aiming to raise £1000, this provides a hospital with staff training, education and awareness resources.
