Peeps are the only UK charity dedicated to supporting families touched by HIE. HIE stands for Hypoxic-Ischaemic Encephalopathy and is a lack of oxygen and blood flow to the brain, most often happening to babies around child birth.

Peeps are a wonderful charity that help families at some of the darkest of times. They provide counselling, wellbeing and mental health support, bereavement support, funding for essential equipment, information and signposting, peer support, online wellbeing and information sessions to parents, carers and family members of children who have suffered a HIE event.

I am trying to raise money to help them continue to do this, by taking part in their 8th Birthday "8 Challenge" in August. My "8" is for nearly all of August I am challenged to drink nothing Mon - Fri and of the 10 weekend days in August I will challenge myself to 8 sober/dry weekend days (as well as Mon - Fri) for the entirety of August; a summer social month with a glorious bank holiday!

If you think this sounds easy, then I applaud you. However, I look upon this challenge as one of the hardest I will ever do. Give me a sorting activity any day because for me, like a non runner looks upon a marathon or someone scared of heights looks at an abseil, this is my achilles. I have never done dry January (or dry anything). I say on a Monday I will detox then Friday I am wine in hand.

Alcohol is my vice (a close first over coffee) and this is my challenge.
