Charlie's 100 mile run for The SMO Foundation

Charles Betts is raising money for SMO Foundation

100 Mile Ultra-Marathon · 19 July 2025

We enrich and empower lives in mining communities by supporting social and environmental projects. By directing resources and fostering partnerships, we enhance the beneficial impacts that responsible mining already generates, ensuring sustainable, equitable development for all.

Story

On the 18th July, I will be running 100 miles along the coast from Bamburgh Castle to Edinburgh Castle in aid of the SMO Foundation. The route is largely offroad and includes nearly 5000ft of climbing. It's going to be quite hard...

The SMO Foundation, was established to enhance the beneficial impact felt from responsibly operated gold mines by reinvesting in social and environmental projects around mining communities.

The Foundation invests in healthcare, education and biodiversity projects around gold mines, to ensure that local communities can truly benefit from the presence of large scale gold mines. You can read more about the aims of the Foundation here– https://singlemineorigin.com/pages/smo-foundation
