I don’t really know how to write or speak about things like this but I will try just to give you some reason as to why this means so much to me.

Some of you will know me as Charles or Charlie. I’m 28 and a father to two daughters. My eldest, Larose, is aged 4 and born 20/08/2021. She’s so full of life! She’s amazing, polite, clever, funny, caring, just everything I could ask for in a child and she keeps me going every day. Her little sister, Lorena, was born sleeping 08/07/2022; less than a year apart from each other. Although Lorena never got to come home with us she will always be my daughter and always be part of my life. Since then, every day I think about all the ‘what ifs’ and how things would be now had it not worked out that way.

I’m raising money for SANDS, the baby loss charity, because they’ve helped me and so many others through the hardest moments imaginable. When you lose a baby the world doesn’t stop but mine felt like it did. I almost completely lost myself but SANDS were there with support, understanding and compassion when it mattered most and are one of the reasons I made it out the other side of a very dark and painful time in my life.

I’m hoping that doing things in memory of Lorena can bring me some kind of comfort and pride as a father so any challenges or fundraisers I take part in going forward will feel like a way of saying her name out loud and making sure she’s never forgotten.

This isn’t just about the money raised to keep an amazing charity like SANDS striving to help others in need but also a way of us honouring all of the little angels in our lives and helping other parents who are facing the same heartbreak come together.
