Story

In December 2024, I lost a close friend, James, after he took his own life following battles with his mental health.

James was a keen rugby player and spent his time playing at Sale FC and Broughton Park, with him spending this season playing with me for the Sale FC Norsemen.

I am running the Wilmslow Half Marathon in order to raise money for Looseheadz which is a charity that supports people struggling with mental health issues in rugby. I would like to raise awareness in memory and honour of James and spread the word about talking about how you feel. There is a big stigma with men whereby a lot of men feel as though they cannot talk about how they are feeling as it will make them look “weak”. I believe it is important to talk about issues you are struggling with and to seek help with those issues.

I have never ran a half marathon before and I am challenging myself to complete this in James’ name.

Myself and James’ family appreciate any kind donations that can be made to support this great charity that do massive things for mental health in rugby.
