Story
This year WHOOSH will be undertaking a 280-mile pedal power adventure, following the River Severn from where it rises in the Cambrian Mountains of mid-Wales to Bristol and the sea. In the process we would love you to help us support the river loving charity Thames21
I first became aware of Thames21 when my company Thames Water took part in a clean-up day that T21 organised on the foreshore of the River Thames near to Docklands. Apart from getting plastered in mud and removing lots of rubbish, I learnt that plastic bags when they fall into the river don’t remain scrunched up but fill with silt, like a ballon with air, and submerged become an impenetrable barrier to any mud living creature. I am grateful that Thames21 educated me and gave me the opportunity to do something practical to improve my river's habitat.
Thames21 works to transform London and the Thames basin into a healthier more climate resilient region with rivers that everyone can enjoy. They mobilise thousands of volunteers each year to clean up and transform the basin’s 400mile network of rivers.
The Donations
All donations are sent directly to the charity from JustGiving, with no costs deducted, and as usual, the team fund all expenses themselves.
