Story
Thank you for visiting our JustGiving page. We, the women of the University of Sussex Women's Rugby Club (known as Sugby!), are taking on the Brighton Half Marathon once again! This year's event is set to take place on Sunday, March 1st, 2026.
We want to make a difference in the world of mental health, which is why we have chosen to support GrassRoots Suicide Prevention, a Brighton-based charity that is on the frontline tackling the shocking suicide statistics across the UK.
The latest statistics record over 6,000 suicides in the UK every year, a figure we are determined to help reduce. By supporting GrassRoots, we have the chance to make a real difference in preventing these tragic losses.
GrassRoots created the 1st suicide prevention App in the UK, the 'Stay Alive' app, which has now been downloaded over 910,000 times across 208 countries and territories. Independent evaluation shows the app is a vital lifeline:
• 76% of at-risk individuals said the app helped them keep themselves safe from suicide.
• 81% of people using the app said it helped them keep someone else safe from suicide.
GrassRoots has more than 20 years of experience in suicide awareness and training.
We believe that the fight against suicide requires the same teamwork and commitment we bring to the rugby pitch. By fundraising for GrassRoots, we are actively backing a local charity that empowers our community and saves lives—making them a perfect match for the values of Sussex Women's Rugby.
Please consider donating as we get into the gruelling training for our annual Half Marathon taking place on the Brighton seafront! Every stride is for a life saved.
Thank you for your generosity, and Up The Suss!
