On the 12th October the three of us will be running the West Coast Half Marathon for Nacoa, and in tribute to Karlos, our late dad who sadly passed away from cirrhosis caused by alcohol, in 2023.

Every day, Nacoa provides vital support to children and young people affected by their parent’s drinking, offering them a lifeline through helplines, counselling, and advocacy.

This is a poignant day for us, as this date will mark 2 years from the day since we laid our dad to rest. The run will start in our dad’s home town of Preston and will end at Lytham St Anne’s, where he last lived before he passed away.

We want to mark this anniversary, through running this half marathon, in honour of his memory, and it is our way of trying to contribute towards helping Nacoa in funding their vital services, and supporting children who have been affected by their parents drinking.

Whilst, we were blessed to share many memories with our dad, there are so many we wished to share with him. Our dad did have his battle with alcoholism, but he was an incredible man, who was loved and adored by many. Alcoholism is a cruel disease that affects the person suffering, their children, family and friends, and can unfortunately take good people too soon.
