Story

St John’s Hospice is a charity very close to my heart. The hospice cared for my grandad Vincent Seddon and gran Barbara Dalgleish as they reached the end of their life. They did so with compassion and dignity.

St John’s is also integral to my journey as a Doctor. I was fortunate enough to volunteer at the hospice during sixth form, getting to share stories with incredible patients about their life whilst providing them with hot drinks and assisting staff with non-clinical tasks. During medical school I was delighted to rejoin the fantastic team for 2 separate placements. These placements were so valuable to me as they highlighted the importance of palliative care and how best to provide a holistic approach to healthcare to ensure a positive experience for both patients and their loved ones through a difficult time. I already knew St John’s was special from the amazing care they provided my family, but being a part of the team and meeting so many incredible patients, families and staff members reaffirmed this.

This charity is so important to our community in North Lancashire and South Cumbria and needs YOUR support to continue its fantastic work. Please consider donating to this cause, it means the world to me. By supporting St John's Hospice you are directly supporting our community when they need us the most.
