Story

Hi everyone!

Thank you for taking time to visit my page...

In September 2024 I will be completing Tough Mudder!

Since 2020, after the birth of our first child my wife, Liv, has been under the support of Acacia for support for struggles surrounding severe postnatal depression and anxiety. Acacia Family Support is a local charity who do incredible work supporting mothers, dads, parents (including LGBTQ+) and families impacted by perinatal and postnatal mental health issues. Since suffering with postnatal depression following Theo’s birth and severe anxiety since suffering an ectopic pregnancy in April 2023 abd the ongoing and the trauma and intense anxiety during Reuben’s pregnancy, for liv it is a daily and hourly battle that often plagues and suffocates her, with some days being more bearable than others.

Along with support from the mental health team, Liv (and many other women liv has met in past years and months, since pregnancy with our 2nd son and after birth) have accessed Acacias incredible support, accessing CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) and peer support. Liv has suffered with severe and debilitating anxiety and panic attacks, for which a colleague described Liv as ‘losing her sparkle’. Acacia have been angels in giving space for Liv and other mothers and parents to vent, rant, cry and breathe.

I have also been supported by the dads & partners service, learning ways to best support my wife and coping mechanisms to aid her. An invaluable service.

Acacia provide, free of charge, a wide range of individual, group based and peer support services to help you recover from the symptoms associated with pre and postnatal depression and anxiety. Their services are delivered in Birmingham by 40 trained volunteers and a small staff team. This includes telephone befriending, individual listening/befriending, CBT based group workshops, telephone support, practical support in service users own homes. Most of their staff and volunteers have experienced maternal mental health or other mental health problems.

As a small local charity, donations are imperative to support and the work they do to support parents and families is incredible and worth every single penny donated.

I’d love for you to help to support families like us in donating.

Thank you.
