Story
This May, I’m running 100 kilometres to raise money for the Scottish Stammering Network (SSN). I’ve lived with a stammer since I was young, and it’s had a big impact on my life—from everyday conversations to moments where I’ve wanted to express myself but felt held back. Recently, I joined the McGuire Programme, a speech programme that teaches powerful techniques to help manage stammering, along with offering incredible support from a global community of people who stammer. It’s been a game-changer for me, and I feel very lucky to have that kind of support. But I know not everyone has access to something like the McGuire Programme—that’s why SSN is so important. They provide free, accessible help and a sense of community for people who might not have anywhere else to turn.
The Scottish Stammering Network is a brilliant volunteer-run charity that supports people across Scotland who stammer. They offer free monthly support groups, workshops, open days, and online sessions for both adults and young people. Their work helps create a safe, encouraging space where people can share experiences, build confidence, and feel less isolated. On top of that, SSN actively raises awareness and challenges the stigma around stammering, working towards a more understanding and inclusive society. Every donation goes directly towards helping them continue this vital work.
