My dad, Ted Newstead, was a Dorset Regiment veteran of World War II and Border Regiment veteran of the Palestine emergency. He was helped by the Royal British Legion, particularly when he was in his final years. They gave him much needed support while he was alive and provided a guard of honour to salute him at his funeral, when he died aged 95 in 2021. He was a great supporter of the RBL Poppy Appeal which provides financial support, advice, employment, mobility, housing, and mental health support including help for those who are facing homelessness, struggling to feed their children and are in financial crisis.

I intend to raise money to support this great charity by cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats.
