Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are excited to support "The Wight Brainy Bunch" by walking 100 miles (each) throughout March 2026! Being on the Isle of Wight, patients face unique challenges in accessing support and treatment, especially with the Solent being such an expensive barrier. We want to do our part to help!
The Wight Brainy Bunch is a small charity dedicated to providing emotional support and financial assistance to brain tumour patients and their families on the Isle of Wight. They fund essential services like travel (as all IOW brain tumour patients are referred to Southampton), accommodation, counselling, physiotherapy for mobility, cognitive rehabilitation therapy, complementary therapies, specialist equipment purchases, small grants, and memory-making or respite breaks for those undergoing treatment or facing terminal diagnoses.
March is also Brain Tumour Awareness Month in the UK. Did you know that:
- 16,000 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour each year?
- More children and adults under 40 die from brain tumours than any other form of cancer?
- There are over 120 different types of brain tumours, making them notoriously difficult to diagnose?
- Brain tumours kill more children than leukaemia or any other cancer?
- They also kill more women under 35 than breast cancer and 65% more than cervical cancer?
- Additionally, they claim more lives among men under 45 than prostate cancer?
Despite these alarming statistics, brain tumours receive only 1-2% of the national spend on cancer research.
We appreciate your support in helping us reach our target of £500. If you can’t spare a pound right now, please share this page—raising awareness is just as important!
Thank you for reading and helping us continue supporting Island families affected by this devastating disease.
