Story
Worldwide, three people are diagnosed with encephalitis (brain inflammation) every minute. Caused by infection or autoimmune diseases, it can affect anyone. It is an acutely serious condition with high mortality rates, leaving many who do survive with an acquired brain injury - potentially affecting them physically and/or affecting their memory, thinking and personality for the rest of their lives.
Encephalitis International's mission is rebuilding futures of those affected: saving lives, accelerating awareness and driving research.
In March 2024 I was diagnosed with Autoimmune NMDAR Encephalitis; a rare form of the desease that requires severe treatment and a lengthy recovery. With the research of Encephalitis International I was able to be diagnosed within 1 week of falling ill and given the best treatment possible in hope of recovery. My family received continued support and reassurance from the charity throughout my illness and although I am considered to be recovered I still join the monthly support groups when I can to help with not only my changes in mentality but also to hear the point of view from others also effected.
Please continue to raise awareness and increase research by donating what you can.
Thank you.
