Story
This May, I’m taking on 60k for the 60 women diagnosed with one of the five gynae cancers every day in the UK.
In October 2020 I was diagnosed with cervical cancer which spread to my bones in April 2021. I was told that without any treatment, I had less than 6 months to live and that I would never walk again. In June 2021 I had surgery to replace my hip & half of my thigh bone with metal, as well as having lots of muscle and surrounding tissues removed. With the help of the incredible physiotherapists, I learnt to walk again and I am proud to say that this surgery combined with chemotherapy, radiotherapy and alternative treatments, means that I have now been in remission for just over 2 years.
The support, information and guidance I received from Eve Appeal during my own diagnosis was amazing and makes this challenge extra special to me. Eve appeal are suggesting a £25 fundraising target, enough to fund an hours phone call with the Ask Eve Nurse coordinator service, but I’d like to raise enough to cover the cost of 4 hours.
Eve appeal’s aim is for all gynae cancers that can be prevented to be, and for those that can't, to be diagnosed as early as possible.
Did you know that abnormal vaginal bleeding is a symptom of three of the five gynae cancers: womb, cervical and vaginal. Yet a Get Lippy survey (Yougov) found that less than half of women would go to the doctors immediately if they had a post-menopausal bleed or bleeding between periods.
Let’s Get Lippy and normalise talking about gynae health.
Don’t forget:
Friday 17th of May is Get Lippy Day! We are asking everyone to Get Lippy and Loud by posting a photo of you with your best friend and sharing what they taught you about gynae health. And on Instagram you'll be able to use Eve Appeal’s sticker! You can tag @eveappeal and use #GetLippy.
