Access the Dales is a UK-based charity and social initiative aimed at improving accessibility to the countryside for people with disabilities or limited mobility. Regular events are organised, including walks, fundraising challenges, and inclusive outdoor adventures.

Story

Our dad, David Cole, sadly died on 23 December 2023.

Dad worked with people with disabilities throughout his working life. First at Dovenby School and later as an advisor on computers for special needs in schools throughout Cumbria and then Norfolk. He also walked the Coast to Coast raising money for Riding for the Disabled.

After his first heart attack and a diagnosis of angina in the 1990s he could no longer walk the fells, but in 2022 he discovered the charity Access the Dales, and borrowed one of their all-terrain vehicles. From then on his passion was planning routes, making adaptations to his Terrainhopper Overlander and of course being able to ramble in the high outdoors once again.

In lieu of flowers we'd like any donations to be made to this charity which transformed his last year. More info about Access the Dales can be found here.

Thank you for reading, Charlotte and Fiona
