Story
On 28th June 2025 I’m going to be attempting a 100km ultra marathon challenge over 1 day in the Peak District to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK, in memory of my amazing Mum.
Right now, half the people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer losing their lives within 3 months of diagnosis. It has lowest survival rate of all common cancers – only around 7% of those diagnosed survive for five years or more. That’s a really crappy statistic which hasn’t changed significantly since the 1970s.
I lost my mum to this in 2016, and although she was able to have an operation to give her a little bit longer, many people are diagnosed too late so treatment options are extremely limited.
Donations to Pancreatic Cancer UK will go towards funding research in order to find an earlier and faster diagnosis for this devastating disease, and offering support and information to those in need. The charity have recently announced that they are funding a new clinical study to develop a breath test to be taken at a GP surgery that could detect pancreatic cancer early enough. It could ensure that people with early symptoms, which are often mistaken for other less serious health conditions, are instead rapidly referred for scans and lifesaving treatment.
I’m going to try and complete the 100kms less than 16 hours. The challenge starts and ends in Bakewell and has a total of 2150m elevation. Need to up my training as I still haven’t ran more than 15km, but that’s what challenges are for right..! Hopefully the snacks along the way are good.
Any pennies would be greatly appreciated, or just a share of this page would be amazing! The cost of the challenge has been paid by myself in full, so all your donations will go straight to Pancreatic Cancer UK (and please remember to gift aid).
Thank you in advance legends! Will update after the challenge😁
