Story
5 years ago my life was about to change and not quite in a way I had planned so soon into married life! I slipped a disc and didn’t realise that I was moments away from potential paralysis. What started as a bad back and terrible sciatica very quickly turned to loss of normal body functions and numbness in my leg, foot and saddle area. Emergency spinal surgery done and I was confident that everything was going to be back to normal, but it was only the start of what was to come. I was fortune that I was able to walk again and gained the function of my legs despite not having any sensation in certain areas. I did however need a lot of medical equipment to carry out every day life due to some internal paralysis I was left with. With the support of the Cauda Equina charity and my INCREDIBLE family and friends, I did not lose hope and trained my body to do most of the things I had been able to do before. A year later, I also fell pregnant naturally and gave birth naturally to my darling Tilly following very close monitoring and advice from specialists. 5 years on and this August marks my 5 years since my op on 29th August 2018.
I want to mark this poignant moment by trying to raise at least £500 for all those living with CES by doing a total of 500km across the month. I will do 300km by bike, 100km walk and jogging and 100km on the cross-trainer.
For some, this may seem easy but as someone who this time 5 years ago couldn’t walk, this is going to be my marathon. I feel mentally ready for this challenge and more importantly, I feel that my body is finally ready for this challenge.
Any support/donations would mean the absolute world to me, however big or small, every penny really does count.I plan on logging all of my progress and hope you will join me for the ride! A huge thank you in advance to the team at Cauda Equina Champions charity for their support and for my incredible family and friends who continue to support me, even when I know that this stage of my life had a huge impact on them too.
