Story
Kitty, Carole and Charlotte are running this race in memory of Steve, a very special person in our lives and someone who played a huge role in Charlotte's childhood. His support, encouragement, good humour and kindness while she was growing up will always remain in her heart, and his impact is still felt in the lives of many of us today and always.
Steve had Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), a progressive neurological disease with no treatment or cure. Over time, it took away his ability to walk, talk (in the way he used to) and do the simplest things many of us take for granted.
In 2022, Steve was referred to Trinity Hospice. From that moment, Trinity supported both Steve and his wife, Sue, with extraordinary care, compassion and kindness.
Their nurses, occupational therapists and clinical psychologist became far more than healthcare professionals. They provided practical help, emotional support and friendship during some of the most difficult years imaginable. They were always there when needed, whether in person, on the phone or virtually, helping Steve face each new challenge with dignity and even, at times, a smile and a joke.
When Steve passed away, Trinity's team were by Sue's side, offering comfort and support when it was needed most. That support continues today.
To have Kitty, Charlotte's 4 year old daughter run this as her first race is very special. Charlotte has run a marathon before and raised almost £3000 for the hospice that cared for her dad and our biggest hope is in doing this, we not only raise some money for a brilliant cause but we inspire Kitty to use her brilliant, resilient body to do great things in the name of charity for the rest of her life.
Carole has a torn rotator cuff and is awaiting an operation and Charlotte has a torn meniscus in her knee - so although we are willing participants, we will be limping along quite literally!
Thank you for your support. It really does mean the world to me, Carole, Kitty and mostly Sue - Steve's wife.
