As a little girl my mum lost her best friend Betty to breast cancer . I remember going to her home to say goodbye and how sad we all were . I’ve never forgotten that day and many years on I still think of her whenever I drive past her house .

That was way back in the 1960s . Thankfully many more women now survive breast cancer which is a great tribute to the medical professionals and charities that do such vital work to save lives .

I’ve had friends who have been treated successfully and I am so grateful . I can’t imagine being without them.

As my daughter works for the charity I know how dedicated all the staff and volunteers are - fund raising for research , campaigning to gain access to new treatments , supporting families and raising awareness about the importance of screening .

On May 10th I’ll join my daughter and many other women on a 20 mile Pink Ribbon Walk in The Cotswolds.

It will be quite a challenge - double the distance I walked last year - so wish me luck and any contributions will be very welcome
