Story
Many of you know that my son Matthew was born with cerebral palsy following a traumatic birth. Determined to give him the best possible start in life, I began researching charities that could support us on this unexpected journey. When Matthew was officially diagnosed at the age of two, I discovered Step and Learn—a small but incredible charity dedicated to improving the lives of children with physical disabilities through Conductive Education.
Since connecting with them two years ago, Matthew has been attending weekly physiotherapy sessions. Thanks to their care, he has made remarkable progress—not just physically, but emotionally too. He can now step up and down, jump, and has recently mastered riding a balance bike. These may seem like small milestones to some, but for Matthew, they are huge victories. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of Step and Learn.
Everyday movements that come easily to most children take immense effort and determination for Matthew. We are endlessly proud of our brave, resilient boy. In the coming months, he will undergo an operation that means he’ll have to learn to walk all over again. Knowing that Step and Learn will be with us every step of the way brings us enormous comfort and confidence.
We feel incredibly fortunate to have found such a life-changing charity, which is why I’m proud to be running the London Marathon to raise funds for Step and Learn—a charity that has given our family more than words can ever express.
