Story
"We're all one bad day away from being homeless" words that I feel are extremely important.
I've been living in London for several years and found homlessness has become very visible to me. I find myself experiencing feelings of guilt when passing by, firstly for what I have; a roof over my head, the safety and comfort of the warm home and loving, supportive friends and family, but I also feel regretful for not taking the time to stop and do something simple to help; like buying a hot drink or a bite to eat.
I always ask myself if there is anything I can do to raise awareness and contribute to finding a solution, but in amongst a busy lifestyle, those thoughts flitter away and I never do anything about it. Until now!
On Saturday 24 May 2025, I will be taking on the ultra challenge of trekking 100km from Richmond in West London to Brighton Racecourse in 30 hours (hiking continuously through the night) in aid of Shelter. The route will take me through the Surrey and Sussex countryside, over the South Downs and on to the coastline of Brighton.
I've chosen to raise funds for Shelter because it campaigns for housing justice in England and Scotland. Providing advice, information, and advocacy to people and campaigns, and lobbies government and local authorities for new laws and policies.
