In memory of David Knowles

adidas Manchester Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·

The 2025 adidas Manchester Marathon offers an incredible opportunity to complete the famous 26.2 mile route whilst raising money for a life changing cause.

Story

I'm running the Manchester Marathon on 27th April in memory of my amazing friend David Knowles who died suddenly in September from a heart attack at just 32 years old.

I met David at university, where he became one of my closest friends. In the 11 years I knew him, we studied together, lived together, worked together and performed together. He was fiercely intelligent and wonderfully kind with a fantastic sense of humour.

David constantly inspired and challenged me, and neither of us were afraid to look a bit silly! As David was a HUGE cricket fan, both playing and watching, it feels only right that I dedicate this marathon to him by stepping up to bat and running the course in a full cricket kit! (That is 2096 runs!) We're talking pads, gloves, helmet and bat! I also couldn’t ask for a better start line of Old Trafford Cricket Ground.

I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation and any donations or kind messages would mean the world to me.

26.2 NOT OUT

The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thanks!
