This time 10 years ago, my wife Jenna and I were excitedly expecting our first child, in June she was born as what seemed a perfectly healthy little girl.

As time went on it was clear something wasn’t right, we eventually got someone to listen and after a week or so of testing she was diagnosed with something called severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID).

Charlotte basically had no immune system, she was going to have to have a bone marrow transplant to try and save her life which would involve harsh chemotherapy to get her body ready for transplant.

We spent around 13 weeks at the RVI in Newcastle whilst this happened.

Unfortunately this whole procedure was just to much for Charlottes body to take and cruelly after what was a successful transplant Charlotte ended up in intensive care and sadly left us with no choice but to make a decision that no parents should have to make.

On the 3rd of may, with her first birthday in sight Charlotte passed away peacefully in our arms.

Charlottes strength, bravery and ability to smile through the pain was what kept us going everyday.

Life has moved on and we now have two beautiful, healthy children but they know all about their sister and we won’t let anyone forget her.

In a year that she would’ve been 10 and in the lead up to her 10th anniversary we are planning on a variety of challenges to raise money in her name for the various charities that helped us before, during and after Charlotte's battle.

The first up in this is going to be the Edinburgh marathon, myself, Conor, James and Andy will be taking this on in May!

For 3 out of 4 of us this will our first marathon and we would hugely grateful if you could donate anything you can!
