Ironman 70.3 Weymouth · 17 September 2023

We stop men dying by suicide. Since opening in 2018, we’ve helped more than 5,100 suicidal men access free, life-saving therapy at our centres in Liverpool, London, Newcastle and Birmingham. 75% of deaths by suicide are men, but suicides are preventable. Donate today to help save lives.

Story

On 17th September 2023 I will be taking part in the Weymouth 70.3 Ironman in memory of my first cousin William. On 28th August 2021 I lost my cousin Will to suicide at the age of just 25. Will was funny, adventurous, and brave.

For a while I have always wanted to do a big challenge for an amazing cause, an initiative very close to my heart, James' place. I have always loved my sport, especially running and swimming however I never thought I would get on a bicycle and combine the three, but here I am. On September 17th I will be swimming 1.9km, hop onto my bicycle for 90km and finish with a half marathon...no pain no gain they say!

Please support in any way you can, this charity is doing incredible things. Just £20 could help train a volunteer mentor to support men after their intervention has ended, £50 could pay for the welcome assessment of one man in a suicidal crisis & £100 could pay for one therapy session for a man in suicidal crisis. Your contribution could save a life.

Please read more about James' Place below:

James’ Place was founded by Clare Milford Haven and Nick Wentworth-Stanley following the tragic death of their son James in 2006. Ten days after a minor operation, James took his own life. He sought help for his anxiety and suicidal thoughts but didn’t find it.

Sadly, suicide is the leading cause of death in men under 50. James's Place offers men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis a lifesaving, proven intervention in a safe and welcoming environment.

James’ Place currently has two centres in Liverpool and London, and since opening its first centre in 2018, has supported over 1,300 men in suicidal crisis. Now they want to reach more men who need their help. They are aiming to open three new centres in Newcastle, Birmingham and Bristol over the next three years and need our help to do this.

Lots of love and thank you for all your support,

Charlotte xxx
