Story
Hi everyone,
I am fortunate enough to be running the London Marathon this year on Sunday April 27th!
It gives me immense pride to announce I will be raising funds for Action on Postpartum Psychosis (APP), a vital charity dedicated to supporting families affected by postpartum psychosis (PP). PP is a treatable form of mental illness. It begins suddenly in the days and weeks after having a baby and symptoms include hallucinations and delusions, often with mania, depression or confusion. It can get worse very quickly and should always be treated as a medical emergency.
PP affects an estimated 1 to 2 out of every 1000 women and can be a terrifying experience for the mother and her loved ones, but with the right help, recovery is possible!
I would like to dedicate my run to my lovely friend and survivor of PP, Jade Lloyd, who was diagnosed with PP, 4 months after having her daughter back in 2021. Jade had reached out to health professionals multiple times with little impact, before eventually needing to be admitted to a Mother & baby unit. This is why it is so important to raise more awareness of this treatable illness. Jade is now dedicated to spreading awareness, educating health professionals and helping struggling mothers with PP.
This should ALWAYS be treated as a medical emergency!
APP does incredible work to:
- Support families by providing life-changing peer support.
- Raise awareness of postpartum psychosis to ensure early recognition and treatment.
- Fund research into causes, treatments, and prevention.
Your donation could help APP continue to provide resources, train peer supporters, and ensure that no mother or family has to face this condition alone.
Please donate if you can. I would appreciate this so much! Let's spread awareness together about PP.
THANK YOU
