Story
In April 2026, I will be taking on the huge challenge of running the London Landmarks Half Marathon in honour of Evelinas children hospital. They have a very special place in mine and my family's heart. 3 special members of my family were born with conditions where they are all treated at Evelina hospital.
First my son Arlo, he was born with a metabolic condition called PKU which is a condition where he can not break down protein so since he was 9 days old he has been under Evelina hospital and has been on a very special diet. He can't eat like everybody else his food is very limited. Mosty prescribed. He takes protein supplements daily. He is allowed 3 grams of protein a day which is nothing really. But everyday he thrives and because he has grown with this it's just so normal to him. We have to blood spot him weekly and monitor his bloods. If they go high or low his diet gets changed. As a parent finding out your child has a condition is mind blowing but knowing it can be controlled makes you feel a whole lot better. Every day is a challenge but Arlo is an amazing little boy who is thriving at life and I'm so proud of him. Touch wood maybe one day there will be a cure.
My sister is also under evelina and has been since a very young age. She was struggling to go to the toilet so at a very young age her parents went private and got to the bottom of her problems and we found out she had Lipomyelomeningocele which is a birth defect where a fatty lump attaches to your spinal cord. Which means my sister Catherises herself daily and has done from a very young age. She takes medication daily. She is now nearly 17 and absolutely doing amazing in life and I'm so proud of her.
My nephew is also under Evelina he was born with a VSD which is a congenital heart defect. From a baby it affected his weight his breathing and overall health even with a minor cold this would cause a hospital admission. He takes medication daily and is on pumps. He is 5 now and he is doing amazing in life and I'm so proud of him. Every day he shines.
These 3 amazing children in my life are the reason I'm running for this wonderful charity. Evelina have been the best to every single one of them.
Thank you so much in advance for donating whatever you can, it really will make a massive difference.
