Story
As some of you may know, I’ve got a big birthday coming up in September! As I did when I was coming up 40 (when I ran my first half marathon) I got it into my head that I needed to challenge myself somehow. So, I decided on a whim that I was going to run a half marathon every month from October 23 until September 24, when I turn 50! I know, it’s surely not possible that I can be that old! 😂.
Anyway, I’ve been thinking for ages I should try to raise some money, but with so many worthy causes close to my heart, I haven’t got around to doing anything about it. Until now that is.
If you don’t know about Big Moose, they’re an awesome local charity that provides free mental health support to people that can’t wait 36 weeks for help from the NHS and they recently helped a friend of mine really needed help quickly.
My April half marathon was supposed to be as part of the Big Moose Ultra fun run on 14th April, but unfortunately I wasn’t well enough that day. Anyway, I let them know I hadn’t been able to take part on the day, but that I would be running for them on 27th instead and the lovely lot sent me my medal, some socks and a get well card! How amazing!
So on a really wet and dreary Saturday morning, after 2 hours of trying to think of a reason not to run, I laced up my trainers and just got it done. It took me ages after being ill for so long, but I was so chuffed to have made good on my promise. As I was running around, I was thinking about all the people I know and love who have struggled with their mental health. Also the many people (young people) I’ve heard of locally that have lost their own lives in the last couple of years because of their struggles with mental health. As I ran and thought and listened to the lyrics of the music on my playlist, it also occurred to me how much music has been made by people with anxiety, depression, low self esteem and who generally struggle to deal with their feelings at any given time. And that’s what made up my mind, what better charity to support than one which helps people and gets them through their dark times.
So I’m hoping that if you’ve read this far you’ll understand why I’m asking you to find a pound or two two to help me reach a good sun of money to help Big Moose continue their amazing work.
Thanks so much for your donation, I’ll keep you update with my progress.
