Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
When I moved to Washington, DC, after graduating from the University of Kent, Canterbury, I was challenged in ways I never thought possible as I transitioned into a new culture.
Three years later, I’ve grown tremendously. The connections I’ve made with others were central to my journey—sharing stories with people from different lived experiences, extending and accepting a supportive hand, and rebuilding a sense of community in a new city.
Since moving overseas, one source of connection in my life was the alumni meet-up events hosted by the University of Kent in America (UKA) association in DC. The sense of community I developed through the organization drove me to even volunteer as a board member for the UKA association.
In addition to building strong alumni communities in North America, UKA's primary goal is to sponsor Fulbright Scholars from the U.S. who might not otherwise have the chance to engage in cross-cultural experiences and develop their international leadership potential. Opportunities whose value I appreciate immensely living abroad.
As well as, the personal growth opportunities created by the Fulbright Scholarship Program, scholars also offer significant intellectual contributions to the global community in a myriad of ways.
Previous scholars include:
Asael Rodriguez, who conducted research on the relationship between conservation, animal welfare, and the rehabilitation of pangolins—one of the most trafficked species in the world.
Shannon Laribo, who received the 2016 UKA Kent-Fulbright Scholarship for her Master’s degree in Methods of Social Research.
Lashawn Ford, who pursued her master’s in Criminology, and Rebecca Monteleone, whose thesis focused on employment accessibility.
None of these scholars could have studied abroad without the support of the UKA Fulbright Scholarship.
Today, I am asking for your help to fund a prospective young scholar this year. My minimum goal is to raise $300. Any amount you can contribute will be greatly appreciated and will directly enhance the recipient's academic experience at the University of Kent.
