Story
Chester Osborne, or “Ozzy” as he is often called, has worked in the field of transportation management in Massachusetts for the past twelve years. In this role, he sought to make operational improvements to highway performance that would reduce congestion and pollution. He currently finds himself transitioning to a new role in support of enhancing the Commonwealth's environmental resources.
Service to the Commonwealth is a second career for Ozzy after serving over 20 years in the United States Army, much of that time as a Special Forces Soldier or “Green Beret.” One hallmark of Special Forces is their ability to traverse any type of terrain from deserts, mountains, and rivers via humane propulsion.
Outside of work, Ozzy enjoys a rewarding family life with his wife and partner Becca, daughters Emma and Ella and cattle dog Annie. Together they enjoy hiking 4000 footers in the white mountains, flat- & white-water canoeing, and bicycling on a bike built for three.
Ozzy’s passion for canoeing was what brought him to OARS, as he has paddled many sections of the Sudbury, Assabet and Concord rivers. Ozzy also volunteers with many environmental non-profit organizations, therefore OARS’ mission to protect our rivers aligns with his personal values.
Inspired by his love for endurance exercise and dedication to the environment, Ozzy is setting out on a 48-hour-long challenge to paddle 86 miles of our rivers! He hopes this adventure will bring awareness to the integral work OARS is doing, the benefits of river recreation, and the importance of keeping our rivers healthy, resilient, and free-flowing.
