This year our Chester Zoo Charity Fun Ride is once again raising money for Breast Cancer Now, a charity incredibly close to our hearts.

A percentage of every entry fee from the ride will be donated to the charity, but we also wanted to create this page for anyone who can't make the event, isn't riding or simply wants to support such an important cause.

For our family, this fundraiser is incredibly personal.

Our wonderful Mum, Julie, passed away following a diagnosis of secondary breast cancer. Mum had faced her original breast cancer treatment head-on, completing chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery before being given the all-clear. Less than 12 months later, we received the devastating news that the cancer had returned and spread to her lungs and liver. We barely had time to come to terms with her diagnosis before we lost her just a few short weeks later. Mum was only 63. She left the biggest hole in our lives and we will forever think about how much more she had to give as a wife, mum, grandma, sister and friend. We miss her every single day.

Then, just two months later, our wonderful cousin Sarah passed away from the same disease. Sarah was first diagnosed shortly before her 30th birthday. Like Mum, she went through treatment, only to later discover that the cancer had returned. She faced everything that came her way with unbelievable strength and positivity, enduring round after round of treatment, but sadly passed away aged just 36.

Two wonderful women, taken far too soon. That's why this event means so much to us. Our hope is that by raising money for Breast Cancer Now, we can help fund the research, treatment and support that will one day mean fewer families have to experience losses like ours. Every single donation, no matter how big or small means the world to us.
