Story
On Saturday 26th April, team mates Jenn Winder, Jess Taylor, Katie Lambeth, Mary Jones and Hannah Williams from Chesterfield Netball Club, along with Jen Halligan, Emilia Halligan, and Jessie Jones are doing a sky dive!
The sky dive is to raise as much money as possible for the Owen Mcveigh foundation, who create magical memories for children living with cancer.
This is a foundation that is close to our hearts as Jenns little cousin Arabella, was diagnosed with Leukemia at the age of 3 in July 2023. Arabella has undergone numerous procedures and has had countless general anaesthetics. She has had intensive high dose chemotherapy and now has weak bones and compression in her spine from treatment. In March 2024 she broke her right femur from a simple fall and now has a plate and pins in her leg which will be removed at the end of treatment. She also has now started 6 monthly infusions to hopefully improve her bone strength and the compression in her spine. Arabella is currently in her last and longest phase of treatment (maintenance) which involves daily oral chemotherapy and lumbar punctures for chemotherapy into her spine. Arabella is currently doing well and will finish treatment in August 2025.
From Arabellas parents; We don’t know what we would have done without the Owen Mcveigh foundation, they have allowed us to create some incredible memories and have been our light in darkness. The foundation is not just a charity, it’s a family and we have met so many amazing people who have become friends. We are so grateful to them for every memory they have made for us as a family.
Due to being so poorly, Arabella has missed out on a lot that we generally would take for granted, however because of the Owen Mcveigh charity Arabella has been able to attend the Taylor Swift concert, Dancing on Ice show, Strictly Come Dancing and so much more.
Most importantly, they are memories Arabella will remember forever!
