Story
Since 2011, the Chevening Pilgrims have undertaken walking challenges that have raised over £100,000 for charitable causes.
The Pilgrims have walked the Pilgrims Way, completed the national Three Peaks Challenge, walked the Pembrokeshire coastal path, the El Camino pilgrimage, the length of Hadrian's Wall, and more.
This year, we will be returning to our first challenge, walking 55 miles from St Botolph's Church, Chevening to Canterbury Cathedral for our best friend and founder pilgrim, Kevin McNamara who has been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.
Equally, while the pilgrims walk the land, 'George's Dragon Slayers' will rule the waters!
This year, at the Chipstead Dragon Boat Festival, Carl and Katie Williams of the George and Dragon Pub, along with friends and family of Kev will be racing on the waves to raise money and awareness for MNDA.
Kev is the pilgrim embodiment. His strength, faith, good humour and determination underpins our group, and it has helped fuel us for thousands of miles over the past 15 years.
He has also driven our fundraising efforts, helping raise sums for very worthwhile causes including a new church roof, a garden of remembrance, a school extension, Cancer Research and The Anna Lewis Brighter Future Fund with Great Ormond St Hospital.
We could not be more proud as he faces this disease, and want to show that whatever he faces, we'll all be walking, and paddling, with him.
We are walking and racing to support the MND Association, who have been an incredible source of help for Kev and his family. They fund vital research to find a cure, improve access to care, and campaign for those living with or affected by this cruel disease across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
