This year has been a devastating year for many women and girls. With the overlapping crises of COVID-19, climate change, rising political insecurity and conflict, progress on gender equality has not only failed to move forward – it has begun to reverse. All around the world, we are seeing a backlash against women’s rights and well-established freedoms and protections are in danger of collapse.

It’s more important than ever to stand up for the rights of women and girls everywhere.

I believe in the strength of women. I believe in the power of women’s voices, and the importance of giving them equal opportunities so that they may fulfil their potential. I want all women and girls, everywhere, to have equal opportunities to lead, to learn, to lead full lives, safe and strong, and free from discrimination. This is my wish for my daughter, and this is my wish for women and girls everywhere.

This year, I hope to raise $10,000 to help make this wish a reality. Any donation made to my birthday campaign will support UN Women’s programs in over 100 countries around the world.

UN Women is working towards a future where every woman and girl – everywhere – has equal opportunities to opportunity to thrive, to lead and to live free from the fear of violence.
