A note from Richard
Three weeks before our baby was due to arrive into our lives, her mother started to experience some discomfort. The doctors examined her, placed the microphone on her belly, and we waited for that magical, distorted siren of a heartbeat, familiar to any soon-to-be parent; but we were met with nothing but silence.
Our beautiful little girl Bebe Mae was delivered on 17th October 2022 at 37 weeks, but never took a breath.
She was perfectly formed, fingers and toes, little nose and tightly shut eyes. She looked peacefully asleep, and the anxiety that we had been experiencing about becoming first-time parents faded into insignificance, met instead with the realisation that we would miss out on a lifetime of getting to know this beautiful little girl.
The Chief Nation team has chosen to support Tommy’s in honour of Bebe’s memory. By raising money, we want to support the work that Tommy’s does to fund vital research into miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth so we can keep saving babies’ lives. For parents, the loss of a baby can be both mental and physical. In our case, whilst we are faced with having to cope with losing Bebe, her mother is continuing to deal with the physical trauma of her preeclampsia, which has left her with kidney failure and in need of a kidney transplant (expect to see a future challenge to support the kidney foundation).
Raising money will help babies and parents in the future, and avoid what’s happened to us, happening to others. Please donate what you can.
