Team: ChildLine Trek to China 2025

Trek China 2025 · 21 September 2025

ChildLine is the UK's free and confidential, 24 hour helpline for children in distress or danger. Trained volunteer counsellors comfort, advise, support and protect children and young people who may feel they have nowhere else to turn. Children call ChildLine about a wide range of problems, but the most common problems are abuse (both sexual and physical), bullying, serious family tensions, worries about friends' welfare and teenage pregnancy. Children and young people can call ChildLine about anything – no problem is too big or too small. ChildLine is a service provided by the NSPCC

Story

THE CHALLENGE

* Conquer the imperial masterpiece of the Ming dynasty

* Test yourself against thousands of challenging steps

* Triumph over the crumbling, twisting pathways of the Yan Mountains

* Savor the timeless landscapes and time-weathered watchtowers

* Enjoy the cultural highlights of China's bustling capital city

A number of staff and volunteers from Childline are stepping out by becoming intrepid explorer’s to help rebuild children’s lives and prevent abuse. Our team will be taking on a week-long challenge from 20 – 28 September 2025. Every penny raised will go towards Childline Scotland and the fight for every childhood.

A team of staff and volunteers, in Scotland, have already signed up for the trek in September 2025 and are urging more people to join us.

We have helped children to keep safe in Scotland in 2022/23 with our vital Childline service. Our Childline volunteers delivered almost 200,000 counselling sessions to children and young people. We estimate around 8,600 of these children lived in Scotland.

The expedition, which runs from September 20 – 28th is being organised by Charity Challenge, includes five full days of hiking along the steep staircases and crumbling watchtowers of the Great Wall of China. There will also be a chance to experience the sights and sounds of Beijing, including the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square.

For a number of people in our team have never done anything on this scale before and also have a real fear of heights, so this is a huge challenge for everyone. We are all so excited and we know it will feel such a great and life-changing achievement – not only completing the trek but raising the much-needed funds for Childline’s vital work.

We would love to hear from anyone who would like to be part of our team and join us on this demanding but rewarding challenge.
