Meningitis is deadly; killing and seriously disabling in hours. Small children and young adults are high risk, but all ages can be affected. Globally 1,000 people die daily. We fundraise to invest in research, campaign for vaccines, provide symptom information and support those already affected.

Story

My name is Chloe Levelle, I am 31 years old. I am running the London Marathon on April 21st 2024 and raising money for Meningitis.

I am a complete couch potato, fitness is not something that is in my life and not something I particularly enjoy at all. I am literally going from couch to 26.2 miles in a matter of months. Crazy I know! I have already started my fitness journey by joining the gym, swimming regularly and have already lost 1 stone and 2 lbs with another stone to shift! I have also completely stopped smoking which I have done for the past 10 years! I’m so dedicated to this cause and I will cross that finish line in whatever time I get (aiming for under 7 hours haha) and will do this with a smile on my face!

I am running for meningitis for myself and most importantly for my brother. I want to raise as much money as possible for this amazing charity which really is so close to my heart.

In 2015 I contracted meningitis after falling incredibly poorly incredibly fast. If it wasn’t the quick thinking of my parents getting me the medical care I desperately needed I really could have had a life changing result from it. I was so lucky that I never got any long lasting effects after being admitted to hospital. I do though know the life changing effects from this awful infection first hand as my strong, courageous older brother, now 37 years old, was born very premature. Whilst in the special care baby unit he contracted meningitis and septicaemia which caused a bleed on his brain resulting in cerebral palsy. As a result of this he is severely physically disabled and is totally wheelchair dependent . He also has a separate serious congenital heart defect. He has lived at home with our parents all his life. Whilst his life is very difficult and limiting, the strength, resilience and zest for life he shows on a daily basis is inspiring. If he can wake up everyday with a smile on his face and an attitude to conquer the world then I can run 26.2 miles.

Thank you all for reading my story, please donate if you can and if you can’t please share my story.

All my love
